ASM promotes safety and diversity
The American Society of Mammalogists (ASM) is continuously working to provide a safe professional environment that encourages diversity and promotes inclusion at all events. As part of this goal, the ASM strives to address concerns and complaints of misconduct. To this end, the Office of the Ombudsperson was established in 1992, and has continuously worked to address complaints by or concerning members. In recent years, the ASM has moved to create an explicit Code of Conduct to which all meeting attendants must adhere, and to regularly improve and expand disciplinary action in response to violations of this Code. The ASM is proud to be an inaugural member of the Societies Consortium to Stop Sexual Harassment in STEMM (as of February 2019), and we will continue to take all prudent measures to ensure that our Centennial and all future meetings provide a welcoming, inclusive, and safe environment for all meeting attendants. The ASM encourages open dialog on diversity issues, and we call on all members to proactively support a diverse and respectful membership. While we cannot discuss individual cases or allegations, we encourage members to bring concerns to our attention; please do not hesitate to contact our leadership or the Office of the Ombudspersons should you have any questions or concerns.
La ASM promueve la seguridad y la diversidad
La American Society of Mammalogists (ASM) trabaja continuamente para proveer un ambiente profesional seguro que propicia la diversidad y promueve la inclusión en todos los eventos. Como parte de esta meta, la ASM procura atender preocupaciones y denuncias de mala conducta. A estos efectos, la Oficina del Defensor (Office of the Ombudsperson) se estableció en 1992 y ha trabajado de manera continua para atender quejas de parte de sus socios o referidas a ellos. En años recientes, la ASM se preocupó de desarrollar un Código de Conducta explícito al que todos los asistentes a las reuniones deben adherir y de mejorar y ampliar las acciones disciplinarias en respuesta a violaciones de dicho Código. La ASM se enorgullece de ser miembro inaugural (en febrero de 2019) del Consorcio de Sociedades para Parar el Acoso Sexual en STEMM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería, Matemáticas y Medicina), y seguiremos trabajando para tomar todas las medidas prudentes para asegurar que nuestroCentenario y todas las reuniones futuras provean un ambiente acogedor, inclusivo y seguro para todos los asistentes. La ASM favorece el diálogo abierto sobre temas de diversidad, y llamamos a todos los miembros a apoyar proactivamente una membresía diversa y respetuosa.
