Resolution on Regulation of Scientific Collecting

WHEREAS, scientific specimens are an integral part of the educational and scientific study of mammals; and

WHEREAS, the obtaining of scientific specimens of mammals is becoming increasingly difficult because of federal and state permit regulations; and

WHEREAS, it is important that federal and state regulations not impede the appropriate use of mammalian specimens in scientific research;

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the American Society of Mammalogists endorses in principle the recent report of the American Ornithologist's Union's Committee on the Scientific and Educational Use of Wild Birds, and resolutions on this matter made by the Wilson Ornithological Society and the Cooper Ornithological Society at their joint meeting in Bozeman, Montana.
