Host Resolution - 70th Annual Meeting, Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Maryland

WHEREAS, the 70th annual meeting of the American Society of Mammalogists was held at Frostburg State University, Frostburg, Maryland, on 9-13 June 1990; and

WHEREAS, Liz Vrba teased our fantasies with visions of equatorial tropical rainforests in Lubbock, Texas, and thundering masses of northern migrations of mammals from South America; and

WHEREAS, attending the sessions in Lane Center provided the sound effects that thundering herds of South American mammals were passing overhead; and

WHEREAS, starting the meetings on Sunday caused mass confusion of the Resolutions Committee if not the total membership; and

WHEREAS, it no longer became relevant to ask, "Did you drive or fly to these meetings?"; and

WHEREAS, we discovered the game of musical airports including Texans who went to Dallas rather than Dulles; and

WHEREAS, data from Frostburg State University are compatible with our working hypothesis that the same lowest bidder builds all university dorms without any place to take a shower and not get your clean clothes soaked; and

WHEREAS, the Society moved to new personal levels with the "shower with a friend" program; and

WHEREAS, we have not seen so many "do not enter" signs since the early days at an all-girls dorm; and

WHEREAS, east, west, north, and south have been replaced with left and right; and

WHEREAS for the first time such a large number of mammalogists were happy to catch the crabs; and

WHEREAS, calling the hills around Frostburg the most beautiful place in the world is an understatement; and

WHEREAS, the Local Committee provided excellent festivities, including wine, oysters, shrimp, cheese, and banjo music by the "Skillet Lickers"; and

WHEREAS, all were had by a wonderful time; and

WHEREAS, Ron Barry and Ed Gates ran a well-tuned meeting;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVEDĀ that the American Society of Mammalogists expresses heartfelt thanks to Frostburg State University and the Appalachian Environmental Laboratory, the Local Committee, and especially our colleagues Ron Barry and Ed Gates for a truly memorable meeting.
