History and Mission
This committee was formed in 1957 and its original and continuing function is to recommend candidates for honorary membership to the Board of Directors and to the general membership of the Society. Honorary Membership is granted in recognition of distinguished service to the science of mammalogy.
Responsibilities
The Committee comprises the five most recent Past-Presidents, with the Chair being held by the second-most senior member for a term of two years. The Committee receives nominations both from outside and within the committee, assembles supporting documentation, and evaluates the qualifications of the candidates. Recipients are announced at the annual Members' Meeting
